Simon
Thackway

Managing Director /Co-Founder

Simon is from the UK and has 20+ years of brand development experience in North America and Europe. He enjoys bringing people together to find creative solutions that help businesses succeed. US clients include BlackRock, Credit Suisse, Finra, Fortress, State Street (SPDR) and XL Insurance, to name a few. Simon has also advised on the branding of 20+ IPO's, M&A and other deals in Europe and the US. He has a BA in Art History and a life-long passion for design. He surfs for kicks and lives in NYC with his family and dog.

McCord

Creative Director /Co-Founder

Kat grew up in Canada and graduated from Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver. She then left the west Coast behind for London, where she lived and worked for 13 years before calling New York home. Before co-founding Thackway McCord, she was Creative director at Dewe Rogerson and Lloyd Northover in London and The Gate in New York. US clients include Finra, BlackRock, the UN, Actua, XL Catlin and State Street (SPDR) as well as galleries and tech-startups. When not obsessing over letterspacing in the studio, Kat loves photography, drawing, visiting galleries, seeing bands, sailing and snowboarding down the mountains with her 12-year old son.

Mike
Cucka

Director of Strategy

Mike has 25+ years in the marketing and brand strategy field on the client side, running his own agency, and as a consultant. He enjoys learning new industries and revisiting familiar ones, working with clients such as Microsoft, Gartner, ICR, Amrop and Broadridge on everything from complex brand and product architectures to strategic positioning that brings brands to life. He writes and draws graphic novels in his spare time. He has an MBA from Fuqua School of Business and a BA in English literature from John Hopkins.

Lucinda Quartararo

Project Manager

Lucinda is from the UK and has 15+ years of experience of branding experience in the US and Europe. Her goal on every project is ensuring that things run as smoothly and enjoyably as possible for everyone involved, as happy collaborators generally make for successful projects. Lucinda has worked on a range of clients that includes National Savings, Queens University Belfast, Bank of Bermuda, Messer, Actua, ICR, Joel Frank, and AlixPartners. Lucinda has a BA Hons degree in English Literature, a Masters in Art History, and a love of books, language, and travel. She lives in upstate New York with her family.

Catherine

UI/UX Designer

Catherine is an Italian/Venezuelan Filmmaker turned UX Designer after studying at Shillington, Pratt and General Assembly in New York. Clients have included Innisfree, HP, SAP, Joele Frank, ICR, Amrop, Uniti and Cowen, among many others. When she’s not sketching wireframes or making neon motion clips, she watches obscure independent films in the East Village.

Jonathan Paisner

Brand Strategist

Jonathan has nearly 20 years of consulting experience helping companies (mostly B2B) make it easier for customers to understand what they do, what they’re all about and why they should do business together. He has worked with a broad range of clients - including Cisco Systems, Verifone, TIAA, Cubic, and CIP Capital - to define and embody their brands across everything they say and do. Previously, Jonathan created the licensing division of A&E Television Networks, where History Channel Tours was a favorite among dozens of partnerships he developed and managed. Jonathan enjoys baseball, walking tours and clever punctuation. He has an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BS from Northwestern University.

Hailing from New Jersey, David will fight anyone who claims a good diner exists outside of the Garden State. When he’s not dreaming about taro bubble tea or attempting a perfect score on Kern Me (http://type.method.ac/), David can be found producing EDM on his laptop or counting his toes. He has a BA in Computing and the Arts from Yale University.

Valentina is our newest intern. Colombian born, but Miami raised she is an aspiring dog mother. For the past three and a half years, she has been attending Pratt Institute in Brooklyn pursing a BFA in graphic design and illustration. When she’s not designing or doodling, you can find her soaking up the last bits of summer sunshine at your nearest park.

Brent is a tastebud-plagued and music obsessed Ohio native who dreams of Saturn and basically any place that doesn’t have stifling, oppressive summers. He appreciates typefaces with cool names like Galaxie Copernicus. TM clients have included Peak Rock, Actua, Cowen, Innisfree, XL Catlin and many more. When he’s not busy trying to come up with a logo that no one has designed before, Brent runs a record label in Brooklyn.

Adam grew up in upstate New York and studied Computer Science and English before landing at SUNY Purchase for New Media. He built his first website in 8th grade and hasn’t looked back since. Understanding the web as a place for art and experimentation, coupled with his love for video and animation has led Adam to a wide variety of projects within the tech industry for the past 8 years. Recent clients have included MCD Partners, Ars Nova, CoreWalking, Electric Orange, and Slick It Up, among many others. In his spare time, he can be seen around Brooklyn with his giant monster dog.

Web Developer

Phil was born and raised in Canada. He holds a BA in Religion but found his true calling behind the keys of his desktop. Phil has been the development lead on hundreds of projects and enjoys not only the wild variety of designs he’s worked off of, but also coming up with the methods needed to produce them. With 5 children spanning the ages of 3 to 14, he doesn’t have much spare time, but when he manages to cut loose, he can be found working on the garage or on the road trying to squeeze whatever extra horsepower he can out of his car.

Copywriter

John grew up in the Midwest (Grand Rapids, Michigan), was schooled in the East (Princeton) and ended up in the West Coast (San Francisco). A first job in the mailroom of a small ad agency led to a 20-odd year career in communications, including 12 years as a creative director. From high level message strategies to hands-on copywriting, John enjoys the learning that comes with working in a variety of client categories, from high finance and high tech to California wines. In his spare time he can be seen skiing, kayaking or putting together soundtracks for his drives to Lake Tahoe.

Simon has close to 30 years experience in the research, planning and business of brands. He has worked throughout the world on a variety of blue chip financial brands including Credit Suisse, Unum, State Street, Visa, American Express, Banco Itaú, Royal & Sun Alliance and Nationwide Insurance. Prior to Thackway McCord, he was head of brand consulting at Financial Dynamics and Director of Brand Valuation at Interbrand and Strategic planning Director at Saatchi & Saatchi advertising.

Rosie is the latest (and most enthusiastic) addition to the Thackway McCord team. She’s a 20 week old schneagle from Alabama by way of Virginia and now resides in SoHo, where she’s learning to stand tall when passing large trucks! Rosie’s favorite vacation spot in Montauk and she’s a fan of scented typefaces.
